The Door is Done

As my Mommy Connie pointed out, "Now it's a bathroom."
That's right, this weekend we finally put the door back on the bathroom.
Bask in the privacy.
Bask in it!

So, as you may remember, I set out to refinish the inside of the bathroom door about oh...six months ago. Here was the before:

So I whisked it up to the attic and began removing layer after layer of paint...

I even shined up the hardware, real nice like...

And now...drumroll please...

Not my best work picture-wise but you get the idea. It's beautiful, it matches the other doors upstairs (actually, it looks a little better) and it looks great in the bathroom.

As you can see from the photo, I don't have my shiny hardware on there yet and that's because I need to go get some little screws for it first. That's the trouble with doing something over six months...things get lost. Especially tiny screws.

But as soon as the hardware's on, look what we got...

That's right! One more door in our house (the dining room has a skeleton key) has a key that actually works! Since the door wasn't caked in paint anymore, Mommy Connie was able to pry the lock out and we took it to a locksmith down the street: Courtesy Key and Safe Co. About an hour and $7 later, we had a custom key that works just...beautifully. I'm not sure if people will have a hard time figuring out how to lock the door when they come over but hey, if it still works...why not use it?

Now if you'll excuse me, Kansas appears to be entering full-blown Spring temperatures and it's my only day off this week so I'm going to go make something up for myself to do outside.

  1. Were the glass knobs already in the house? I have a bunch of them -- somewhere -- that's come home with me from various estate auctions, etc., over the years. I'll have to find them. Not sure about too many matching pairs, but we'll see.

    1. Yeah! Pretty much every door in the house still has glass knobs. They're really beautiful!
